"Basement smell" IS microbial activity — it is normalized, not normal. A dehumidifier sized to the space often solves mild cases; persistent or worsening smell deserves an inspection.
Should moldy crawl space insulation be replaced?
Colonized fiberglass cannot be reliably cleaned — it comes out during remediation. Whether and how to re-insulate depends on the moisture strategy we set up for the space.
