Insurance Claims Help
A restoration claim lives or dies on documentation. Here is how we keep yours moving — and what every homeowner should know about their coverage before disaster strikes.
When your home is damaged, you are suddenly managing two projects at once: the physical restoration and the insurance claim that pays for it. We handle the first completely and make the second as painless as a claim can be.
What we do for your claim
- Photo documentation before, during, and after — the condition record your adjuster needs to see.
- Moisture readings and drying logs, day by day — proof the mitigation was necessary and done to standard.
- An itemized scope of work in the format adjusters expect, so line items do not bounce back and forth.
- Direct communication with your carrier when you authorize it, so you are not the messenger in the middle.
- Fast mitigation response — every insurance policy expects the homeowner to prevent further damage after a loss. Calling a mitigation crew quickly is part of protecting your claim, not just your house.
How the process usually goes
- 1. Stop the damage. We respond, stop the spread, and start mitigation. This should never wait for paperwork.
- 2. Report the loss. You call your insurance company or agent to open a claim. Have your policy number handy; note your claim number.
- 3. The adjuster assesses. Your carrier assigns an adjuster who inspects and reviews our documentation.
- 4. Scope and settlement. The carrier approves a scope of repairs based on your policy. We complete the restoration work.
What we can't do — said plainly
Only your insurance agent or carrier can tell you what your policy covers, what your deductible is, or what a settlement will be. We are restoration experts, not insurance representatives, and any contractor who promises you what your policy will pay is overstepping. What we can promise: the mitigation will be done right, and the documentation will be complete.
Before you ever need us: a coverage checkup
The hardest conversations we witness are not about the damage — they are about coverage a family assumed they had. A twice-a-year review with your insurance agent is worth an hour of your time. Questions worth asking:
- Am I covered for flood? Rising water from outside is typically NOT covered by standard homeowners policies — flood coverage is usually a separate policy or rider.
- Do I have sewer and water backup coverage? Backups through drains and sump pump failures often require their own endorsement.
- How does my policy handle mold? Many policies limit or exclude mold remediation depending on the cause.
- Are my limits current? Construction costs have risen sharply — coverage that was right five years ago may not rebuild the same house today.
Your agent can tell you exactly where you stand. Asking now costs nothing; finding out during a claim can cost everything.
Common questions
Do I have to use the restoration company my insurer suggests?
No. In Kentucky and Indiana, the choice of contractor is yours. Carriers may offer preferred vendors, but you are free to choose the company you trust with your home.
Should I wait for the adjuster before mitigation starts?
No — and your policy almost certainly says so. Policies require you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage. Document the initial conditions (we do this), then mitigate immediately. Waiting days for an inspection while water spreads makes the loss worse and can complicate the claim.
Will you bill my insurance company directly?
In many cases we can work from the approved scope with your carrier and keep the paperwork between us and the adjuster. Every claim is a little different — we will walk you through how yours will work up front.
